A travel VPN
for the Wi-Fi you don't control
Airport, hotel, train and café networks are shared with strangers. RedVPN encrypts the connection from your phone, so the network you join cannot read what you send through it.
What a travel VPN does
A VPN sends your phone's traffic through an encrypted tunnel to a RedVPN server. The network you are on, such as airport Wi-Fi, sees that you are connected to the tunnel, not the content of the traffic inside it. Read airport Wi-Fi safety and hotel Wi-Fi for the common cases.
What RedVPN includes
- Premium VPN on iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, and a Linux command-line client. Premium is sold as prepaid periods, monthly or yearly, with no auto-renewal: $3.99 for one month, $39.99 for one year, in USD.
- Free to start: a 3-day free trial, with no account and no card needed to try it.
- Protect Mode, on-device protection that refuses known malware, phishing and command-and-control hosts. Read how Protect Mode works.
- Travel eSIM for mobile data in over 170 countries, set up before you fly.
How it compares with using public Wi-Fi
| Situation | Without a VPN | With RedVPN on |
|---|---|---|
| Airport or hotel Wi-Fi | Traffic leaves your phone unencrypted at the network layer, unless each site uses HTTPS. | Traffic to the RedVPN server is encrypted on the network you joined. |
| Mobile data (eSIM) | Your carrier carries the traffic; no Wi-Fi needed. | The VPN runs over the eSIM too, so the same protection applies. |
| Checking destinations | No on-device check. | Protect Mode checks the addresses your phone connects to (see the next section). |
What Protect Mode sends, and what it does not
Protect Mode checks the places your phone connects to against a threat list. To do that, it sends your device id and the addresses and ports it checks to RedVPN. Those addresses are not kept. A full report is made only when you ask for one. Protect Mode does not send the content of what you send or receive.
Limits
A VPN protects the connection between your phone and the VPN server. It does not make a site you visit trustworthy, and it does not replace updates, strong passwords or care with links you did not expect.
