Founder & CEO, RedVPN, Inc.
Sina Rabbani is a security software engineer and network architect with more than fifteen years of building and operating detection systems, high-risk hosting and anti-censorship infrastructure under nation-state pressure. He founded RedVPN, Inc. in 2022 and leads it today; he was president and principal security engineer of Red Team LTD from 2012 to 2021 and has sat on its board since 2012.
His work on access to the open internet started earlier. In 2009 he co-founded Access Now as its chief technologist and kept more than two dozen high-risk sites available under sustained attack. The same year he joined the Tor Project as a core member and began operating Faravahar, one of the nine Tor directory authorities, a role he still holds.
At Red Team LTD he designed and deployed tunnelling systems and apps used by millions of people to get past Iran's censorship; when Iran blocked TLS and broke the original network, he engineered new tunnels that reconnected more than 10 million users to the open internet, and later re-architected the stack for speed and battery life on phones.
From 2014 to 2022 he worked at Team Cymru, first as Director of Community Services, the primary technical contact for human-rights activists and opposition groups in heavily censored countries, then as a systems engineer building large-scale flow collection and detection pipelines. He is based in Irvine, California.
