Security · Protect Mode

Checked beforeit reaches you.

Protect Mode runs on your phone, alongside the VPN. Each place your phone connects to is checked against our threat list, and known-bad hosts are refused on the device.

What it does

It checks the places your phone connects to against a threat list built from a licensed threat-intelligence feed and our own analysis. It refuses malware, phishing and command-and-control hosts on the device, and flags traffic that looks unusual.

A Protect Mode card sits under the connect button and shows how many destinations were blocked today. Tap it for the list, with the reason for each block.

Your phone connects

Apps connect to hosts as usual, through the RedVPN tunnel.

Protect Mode checks the new hosts

On a regular schedule it sends your device id and the addresses it has not checked yet to RedVPN, and gets a score for each.

Known-bad hosts are refused

A host rated malicious, phishing or command-and-control is refused on the device, following your rules.

You see it, and decide

Blocks and unusual traffic appear in the timeline with the reason. Allow a host, or keep the block.

How it works

Block profiles

Choose what to block. Countries and regions. Cloud providers such as AWS. Ads and trackers. Adult, social and gambling sites. Or your own list.

Your own list of hosts, always allowed or always blocked.

A whole country, or a whole cloud, in one switch.

  • Block all of China
  • Block all of Russia
  • Block all of Amazon Web Services

Trust or block in one tap

Each row in the timeline has an Allow button for a host you trust. Always allow and always block lists are yours to edit at any time.

What is sent, and what is not

Sent

  • Your device id
  • The addresses and ports it checks

Not sent

  • The content of what you send or receive

Those addresses are not kept. A full report is made only when you ask for one.

Questions

Where does the threat list come from?

It is built from a licensed threat-intelligence feed and our own analysis. The app shows the date of the list it is using.

Does Protect Mode read my traffic?

No. It checks the destinations (addresses and ports), not the content of your traffic.

Does Protect Mode stop every threat?

No. It refuses the hosts on its list and flags unusual traffic. No list is complete, so keep your phone and apps updated.

Does Protect Mode work without the VPN?

It runs with the RedVPN tunnel on, because its checks travel through the tunnel.
